Privacy policy

Loddon and District Local History Group is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected and that the site complies with the EU's Privacy and Communications Directive which becomes enforceable on 26 May 2012.

The Directive requires that you, the user, must be given the option to allow the use of Cookies as you enter the site. This is difficult to implement in a way that doesn't deter users from visiting the site, and would detract from the validity of any site traffic data.

This site did collect information from users to monitor traffic in order to analyse site usage and manage the site's content.
In light of the Directive there has been little option but to cease this activity and consequently this site no longer sets cookies or collects data from you as a user.

Links to other websites

Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. Once you have clicked on an external link you will have left our site and consequently we have no control over or responsibility for the privacy policy of that website.

Cookies

Confused? Do you know what a Cookie is and what it does? Unless you are really internet savvy you probably don't, and probably don't really care?

Let's explain what a Cookie is -

A cookie is a simple piece of text which, if you permit it in your browser settings, is written to your hard drive. It is not a program or a plug-in. It cannot be used as a virus, and it cannot access your hard drive.
A cookie file can contain information such as a user ID that a web site uses to track the pages you visit, but the only personal information a cookie can contain is information which you supply yourself.

Two general levels of information about visits can be retained. The first level comprises statistical information - about all visitors - collected on an aggregate basis (what we used to do on this site), and the second is information about a specific visitor who knowingly chooses to provide that information e.g. internet shopping.

I could carry on with further explanation of this "fascinating" subject ..... but by now you've probably lost the will to live!

Please continue to enjoy the site safe in the knowledge your privacy is secure.
